Himachal Pradesh is one of the most beautiful hill states in India offering a lot of places to visit. It has both low cost and luxury destination to cater to a wide variety of choices. What more Shimla being the Summer capital of the British Raj, it has may historic places to visit too.
The most popular places to visit are Manali and Shimla.
Shimla is the capital city of HP. It is easily approachable by road or the Kalka Simla Railway which pass through 103 tunnels , taking you through forests and waterfalls.
On approaching Shimla one could see the symbols of British architecture all around. The Mall Road is where everyone should visit to enjoy the cultural mix and colours streqn around the place with a lot of good eatries and places to shop around.

The Shimla Kalibari is directly approachable from the Mall road moving past the General Post Office. Its a pleasant walk down the lane to the Kalibari and further to Gorton Castle passing by the Passport Office. The Indian Institute of Advanced studies housed in the Viceregal Lodge is also a must visit for history and humanities lovers.
Other places nearby are the Kufri and Naldhera where one can go for skating and horseriding.
After Shimla, one can take a cab to Manali following the State Highway 11 and NH 21 passing through Bilaspur Sadar, Mandi, Kullu and Mandi.
Manali presents a different outlook and terrain being on the higher reaches. The river Beas keep following you till you reach Manali. Major spots are the famous Bhimakali temple, the Manali Devi temple in Old manali, Tibetan temple and Vasisth temple all approachale by cab or auto and near the mall road.
For the adventurous and snow lovers , one can hire a cab and go to Solang Nala and Rohtang pass.
Naggar is a place which is one the left bank of Beas is a tiny village near Kullu. The famous Russian painter Nicholas Roerich used to stay in a castle in a hillock named after him as Roerich castle. It has paintings and many Indian traditional and Himachali cultural objects for exhibition. The Art exhibition and Collage of arts is worth visting. Roerich received many nominations for the Noble Prize and was known for his close association with the Nehru family.
